Winter

We don’t know
we have never known

a deeper darkness
an eradication of

life –
the end of light
as night falls

and you stand and
say if there is a spark
we can fix this

but I don’t know how
to fix this

A fantasy

This is “wreckage”
(in case you missed that point)
broken, wasted, old.
This is our eradication:
downed houses,
demolished sympathies -
the ending to every beginning
we dared to dream up.

Then there’s you.
The one solid spark in the deeper darkness,
the only one with hope enough
to bring back tomorrow –
and you think all is well.

It is not well.

Fix it.
